I'm sure most of you have seen "Facing the Giants" and while some people may have thought the acting left a little to be desired I personally thought it was well done and had a great message. "Fireproof" looks to be a similar movie, in which is well made and has a great message for everyone and its stars Growing Pains own Kirk Cameron. Essentially it is a movie about two people in a struggling marriage, trying to make fix it without God and it doesn't look like a chick flick either, at least not based on the preview. This movie can teach everyone something whether single, in a good marriage, poor marriage, or anything in between. It comes out in theaters on September 20th and should be good.
Other Good Movies with a good message:
Left Behind 1, 2, and 3
Hometown Legend
Thin Ice
The Moment After 1, and 2
The Second Chance

Good Classic Television
The Bill Engvall Show.....
Ok, so its not the Andy Griffith Show but lets be honest few shows have that kind of popularity and staying power. That being said The Bill Envall Show is a great show and is good enough for all audiences and is hilarious. If you haven't watched this show I highly recommend watching it Thursday's at 9:00 PM on TBS. One of the things I particular like about this show is the Family dynamic that has been developed, particularly among the siblings. This show has been able to include the mocking love that is so common among brothers and sisters. Not only is the sibling rivalry and love done well but the parent/child and husband/wife relationships are off to a strong start too. I say start because the show is only part way through its second season and has the potential to join the ranks that only a few sitcoms have been. Included in this list are of course Home Improvement, Family Ties, and The Cosby Show. The Bill Engvall Show isn't here yet but it has all the pieces to get to this prestigious point if the show remains popular. If you haven't watched this show yet I encourage you to watch sit back and watch it this coming Thursday, or set your DVR, either one.
Enjoy the Show!

United States: Recessed or Blessed?

The United States is clearly not in its best economic condition but my question is how serious is the current economic downturn? If I am to believe the media and conversations with people about finances, budgeting, etc. the situation is bleak. I, however, am skeptical that the situation is that bad and believe the current economic condition is just another phase that all economies go through, including the United States. Does the 1930's or 1970's ring a bell?
Does higher prices and a bear market really create a bad time in and for the United States? I surveyed several people at random ranging in ages from 22 to 62 and all agreed without a doubt that the economy wasn't good and 70% of those surveyed have already cut-back in primarily going out to eat and driving due to high prices. Some surveyed even admitted that discretionary income is currently a luxury and bills were getting hard to pay, 60% believing the U.S. was in a recession. The other 40% believe we are close to a recession or simply in a restructuring phase. By definition Definition of Recession the U.S. is not in a recession because two consecutive quarters of negative GDP growth is required for such a condition to be declared officially. GDP Growth Simply put the economy is definitely not good but is that really important?
Finally I asked whether or not those surveyed felt their household was blessed. Every person, regardless of sacrifices or financial struggles, didn't hesitate to say they were very blessed. While the nation may be experiencing a bear market with many things from oil to employment are looking tough we still live in the United States of America. This is a nation of tough individuals who were guilty of treason in 1776 to form this great nation, survived a civil war, a great depression, and even politicians (scary uh?) . If we can fight through all these battles (especially that last one), we can certainly fight through a rough economy for a few years all we have to do is quit relying on the government for our every need and take a lesson from our great nation's founders. The Mustard Seed Grows....... again
For those of you who feel the first section of my novel is to intense I will post another small part of the book that is not so intense.
[Rich and the missionary team began their trip to Germany that morning, finalizing and confirming plans and meetings at various safehouses throughout Europe. When there plane landed in Berlin Rich, Cliff, and Scott were shocked at the environment they found themselves in.
“I knew Christianity was hated around the world but this is nothing like I have ever imagined or experienced. I thought Rome spread its influence all around the world but this makes the United States look almost Christian." Scott observed.
“Rome is even worse, CIS (Christian Investigation Service) as worked and is working to change the whole world but the efforts in the United States are actually not much better than here. The difference is proximity to Rome, The good news is there are several safehouses and underground churches working with CIS, ” commented Rich.
“What shocks me is the fact that Christianity is the largest religion in the world, and yet the least able to preach without persecution,” Cliff said.
“Well, Rome attacks all Christian establishments in the name of the new world religion, being involved in an outlawed religion as a price,” Rich said.
“Hey, I don’t know about you but I’m proud to be part of the one true religion that stays strong, and keeps growing, despite adversity,” Cliff commented.
“Amen brother,” agreed Rich.]

The Mustard Seed Grows
For the last several years I have slowly been writing a novel entitled "The Mustard Seed Grows" It is a novel based on Matthew 13:31-32, if you haven't figured it out yet this is the parable of the mustard seed. It has been slow-going mainly because I am not a big writer and this has never been a big thing. I have, however, continued to write this novel but am victim to what so many people have been before, writers block. In an effort to change this I am posting one of my favorite parts of this novel. I hope you enjoy this!
Chapter 4
[“Welcome to your third week of roman religious training! I know this group hasn’t accepted our teaching but you will become devout with time,” yelled a Roman religious instructor.
“We will never stop worshiping our God!” answered Ben Wesley.
“Really, I’ve already converted two of you and have them in my top school, besides if you people don’t change your messed up beliefs I’ll bring out the chair.”
“Ben? What’s the chair?” Trevor asked.
“The chair is where a person gets electricity sent through their body,” answered Ben softly, “Don’t worry Trevor, I’m sure your dad is looking for you. Just stay strong, ignore the instructor, and keep prayi……”
“PRAYING!” the instructor send, “There will be know praying to your God here! I am sick of you and your stubborn ways, I sentence you to death……….by the chair.”
“NOOOO……” Trevor yelled.
“Bring out the chair and put Ben Wesley in it!”
WHIP “Kid you have better start listening or you’ll find yourself be in the chair right after your friend here.”
“Don’t touch him, You can kill me but don’t you dare kill him too! Keep praying SHOCK Trev-SHOCK-or.” Ben yelled as he was killed.
“Let this be a warning to all of you! There will be no more of your faith here.”]

Racing and Faith
If you know me at all and can presume anything from the name of domain name of this blog you know I definitely enjoy Nascar. I also love Jesus and I could think of no better way to kick off this blog than to share a great testimony of a Nascar driver, Morgan Sheppard. He was a very successful driver winning several races but now can barely afford to go to the racetrack but with the help of friends and a few small sponsors he regularly competes in the NASCAR Nationwide series. On the hood of his car he places his team logo which is "Racing For Jesus."
