Book Review: "The Last Christian"

"The Last Christian" by author David Gregory is a interesting, thought provoking novel taking in the future. The year being 2088 when artificial intelligence has reached a point in which humans can receive artificial brains. I know that part of the book is actually....shall we say...cheesy. Anyways, the main character, Abby, feels called to go to the United States from her mission field in the New Guinea jungle and reintroduce Christianity in the United States. The book follows Abby in her quest to reintroduce the Christian faith as she makes huge adjustments into a vastly different and highly technological culture. Included in these adjustments, we read about an already mature and faithful follower of Christ grow immensely in faith with the help of her Grandfather's words and even non-christian supporters.

Overall David Gregory as put together a great novel that will make you think about your life and, if you are a Christian, your faith. However, one area I am concerned about is the fact that the cross of Christ, while not ignored and is clearly made to be an important part of Christianity, is not considered the foundation of Christianity. I am not suggesting that "Christ in You Ministries" (Partners with author in this book among others) is bad. On the contrary, I believe this ministry is doing great work and is, has been, and will continue to do great things for the kingdom of God. I mean seriously, they do preach the word of God, Christ (through the Holy Spirit) does live in us as Christians, and this is biblical. I am simply making sure that anyone who reads this book doesn't make the mistake of ignoring how very important and foundational the cross of Jesus and the need for forgiveness is for Christianity.

The Cross of Jesus after all is the most amazing and wonderful stories and without Jesus' death on the cross it would not be possible for the Holy Spirit to reside in us. I very much do recommend this book to anyone! Read it, take it to heart, think about it, and most importantly read the bible along with the book. This book will make you think about life, faith, and what is important.
