Triathlon Results

A couple of weeks ago I wrote that I would share the results of my triathlon and...oops!...I haven't done that yet. Sorry!

The event went fantastic and was a lot of fun. I now understand, more than ever, the addictive nature of this particular sport. Oh well, if addiction is going to claim me, this is a pretty darn good one :)

My results:

Swim - 6:20

Bike - 31:46

Run - 24:56

TOTAL - 1:07:12

In comparison the fastest competitors completed the tri in about 48 minutes! I am a long ways from that kind of time, however, I am thrilled with my time! My goal was 1:15:00.

Running, Volunteering, Encouraging

Howdy friends!

This morning as been a good one. I won't up early for a 5K in Carrboro but for the first time I volunteered during the run instead of running in the event. It is great to compete but I thought it wold be a cool change of pace to volunteer and I was absolutely right! I am by no means a most competitive runner, constantly competing for wins but I now consider myself a veteran runner. Here are some ways in which you can tell if you might be a runner:

You might be a runner if.....

.....you drive by a runner and wish it was you.
.....you have ever been excited that you are doing one minute miles (while driving).
.....you know what it feels like to be cold, sweaty, and warm at the same time.
.....you have ever needed a fix, but are not refering to drugs.
AND FINALLY:

The thought of signing up for a 401K is just too daunting a task for you.

Funny stuff aside the part about volunteering I loved the most was looking into a tired runners eyes and saying, "Keep it up, your doing great, your almost there!" It is SO rewarding to see these runners get encouraged and find the energy to keep going and complete the task before them. I remember when I ran my first 5K and I too was very appreciative and encouraged by these volunteers and I am honored to help someone else meet their goals in fitness. For all you runners out there; keep running, but if you haven't volunteered try it on a weekend you are not competing and encourage the runners, especially the ones struggling or even walking. Just being a tiny part of reenergizing someone is great!

Triathlon!

A few months back I included in a post that I was training for a triathlon. Well.....the time is here! On Saturday I will complete my first triathlon. It is exciting and maybe a little nerve-racking too but I know it will be a fantastic experience that will bring a sickness to me, a sickness called tri-fever :) I would say the only thing bad about the tri being saturday is the fact that training this week is too light! I want to go out and get in some nice workouts but I know that I can't workout to long :(........maybe that is a sickness in itself? lol As much as I would love to say I am going to go out and win this event, don't expect that, My start time quite late relatively, because of my slow swim time, but no worries I plan to do some serious passing on the bike and on the run.

I will certainly let all of you know the results of this triathlon and I am sure I will be competing in many more to come, so for now I leave you with a very appropriate verse for the day:

Therefore since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses. let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perserverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of our faith.

Hebrews 12: 1-2
