I must confess I did not do anything terribly patriotic today...I am not even planning on fireworks! Have no fear I do love my country and I honor all those who fought to free us from those Brits so many years ago starting in 1775 (yes the Revolution started in 1775, we declared Independence in 1776).
While I was not overly patriotic today, it was a very productive day in the young life of Living Hope Camping Foundation, Inc. in which I had the opportunity to visit and talk to the leadership team of NC United Methodist Camp and Retreat Ministries. This ministry operates three fantastic camps in:
1) Efland - Near Chapel Hill and Durham
2) Arapahoe - Close to New Bern, NC and on the coast
3) Parkton - Near Fayetteville, NC
Their respective names are:
1) Chestnut Ridge Camp and Conference Center
2) Don Lee Center
3) Rockfish Camp and Retreat Center
The facilities and the program of this ministry are amazing while the cost of camp is not crazy high. However, the cost of camp is still slightly over 500 dollars. Yes you read that right, $500.00 is a reasonable cost for camp! It is this fact that Living Hope is very needed in North Carolina and beyond. The Executive Director of NC UM Camp and Retreat Ministries wants to provide more families with the opportunity to experience camp and the amazing changes it can produce in a child or teenager's life but simply cannot provide the funds for them all, partially because of the cost to run camp, but also because of the time commitment to run a camp.
Living Hope Camping Foundation can help this ministry and many others reach out to those who have never been reached before, while providing camp for those families who have not been given camperships simply because of limited availability of funds.
It is my goal to reach a point where local Christian camps do not have to provide campership funds because Living Hope covers all the campership funding for its partner facilities. This will allow the camp budget toward all the other demands of camp, while preventing, or even lowering the cost of camp. I have already begun the process of partnering, or hope to begin soon, with the following camps:
1) Victory Mountain Camp - Sophia, NC
2) Chestnut Ridge Camp and Conference Center - Efland, NC
3) Don Lee Center - Arapahoe, NC
4) Rockfish Camp and Retreat Center - Parkton, NC
5) Camp Oak Hill - Oxford, NC
6) CentriKid Camps - Travels, Likely Ridgecrest, NC or Lynchburg, VA
